In your answer you must discuss: * The effect of social and cultural context on representation * The effect of historical context on representation * How and why stereotypes may have been used * Make reference to different theories about representation                                           [30 marks] ________________________________________________________________________________ The female representations in 'Spectre 007' conveys a woman of sophistication and class due to the mise-en-scene of her outfit and style: a sheath platinum maxi with a dark lipstick shade which connotes seduction and prowess. From a radical feminist perspective, this can be seen as the actress being sexually objectified to gratify from the male audience as well as the protagonist- James Bond who is the hero of the fi

Magazine Ideas/Analysis for NEA

Masthead Ideas: DYNAMIC NOTION INFLUENCE  For the font of my masthead , it will be bold, simplistic and sophisticated in capital blocks. The colour of the font will be black/white/or neutral colours to match the conventions of a modern indie/alternative magazine, as well as the complementing the main image( not overpowering yet not too vague). My magazine will be mainly focusing on indie/alternative/rock/synth music and artists. The magazine double page spread will be about my artist's music and recent song "Dancer in the Dark", it will cover the message he's trying to send and why it is important.  The front cover will have a mast head, artist name and a pull quote with page number, it will be minimal and simplistic so that there's more focus going towards the artist himself. The double spread will have a different picture on the left side of the artist with small text of his recent single "Dancer in the Dark". The right side wil

Analysis on magazines(Dazed)

Image
They tend to cover topics on music, fashion, art and culture. They take on more artistic and aesthetic approaches to fashion featuring high end designers . In majority of their magazines featuring females,  models do not wear make up to enhance or glorify their feminine features, but instead strengthen those features to make them more masculine or keep it neutral to embrace their natural beauty. This breaks the conventions of stereotypes on gender where females can be presented as masculine allowing audiences to be more open minded and appreciate the artist values of the magazine.

"How are media language and representations used to create emotional responses in the audience?"

Beyonce is known to be one of the most influential iconic artists who works towards empowering beliefs on feminism and the black movement. Her single Formation for the album Lemonade was released on February 6th 2016- a day before the Superbowl. The music video gained a lot of attention due to it revolving around the historical events of Hurricane Katrina, black culture and feminism.  The music video starts off with Beyonce standing on top of a half submerged police in the flood initiates an emotional response from the viewer. The use of this wide-shot invokes the aftermath of the Hurricane Katrina, this devastation reminds people of the damage that had been caused and introduces some of the components of the music video. Beyonce may have wanted to address the matters of social values that still exist today, Hurricane Katrina was historically significant as it was once of the worst disasters in American history where the federal government failed to equally support both races in the

Music Video Ideas- Initial Plan

NEA- research and planning from Isha Bhatt *(Edit) during the waltz scene, the devil will not be revealed at all, with this I want to enforce the connotations of the devil such as deceiving, dark and enigmatic. Also, the role will be played by a female actor as the devil is a representation of her inner darkness. This would also break the conventions of traditional waltz dancing of a man and woman as partners. It would empathize the personal conflict that Juliet has with her self.    * There will be shots/ scenes involving Juliet going through maniac and depressive episodes in order to represent  the visible struggles of bipolar disorder. For example; not being able to get out of bed, staring at the mirror, dancing around in bliss, books and sheets scattered around with writing intensively. * A circling camera shot rotating around actor to draw attention to the artist. Also a zoom in/or out shot of Juliet which can portray how the audience is drawing into her and how she is

Riptide by Vance Joy Analysis (Incomplete)

______________________________ An Australian singer/songwriter Vance Joy who is known to belong to the genre of indie folk-pop. His first single Riptide sends an abstract yet profound message through a vague narrative which allows the audience to decode the messages themselves. Joy uses many idioms and metaphors in his lyrics to send a deeper meaning about the story he's trying to tell and uses it to link with the visuals of the music video. As a preferred reading, Joy may have wanted to convey the inevitability of a relationship, that you shouldn't become dependent on another person because you'll only be disappointed at the end. The music video is made up of short jumpy shots similar to the style of a montage which does not amplify a clear narrative for the audience to understand .This quick pace rejects the conventions of  indie/pop music videos, it dismisses the repetition of the genre which tends to be melodic and less abrasive(Neale). However, Vernallis suggests
