Magazine Ideas/Analysis for NEA

Masthead Ideas: DYNAMIC NOTION INFLUENCE  For the font of my masthead , it will be bold, simplistic and sophisticated in capital blocks. The colour of the font will be black/white/or neutral colours to match the conventions of a modern indie/alternative magazine, as well as the complementing the main image( not overpowering yet not too vague). My magazine will be mainly focusing on indie/alternative/rock/synth music and artists. The magazine double page spread will be about my artist's music and recent song "Dancer in the Dark", it will cover the message he's trying to send and why it is important.  The front cover will have a mast head, artist name and a pull quote with page number, it will be minimal and simplistic so that there's more focus going towards the artist himself. Analysis on magazines(Dazed)

They tend to cover topics on music, fashion, art and culture. They take on more artistic and aesthetic approaches to fashion featuring high end designers . In majority of their magazines featuring females,  models do not wear make up to enhance or glorify their feminine features, but instead strengthen those features to make them more masculine or keep it neutral to embrace their natural beauty. This breaks the conventions of stereotypes on gender where females can be presented as masculine allowing audiences to be more open minded and appreciate the artist values of the magazine. 

"How are media language and representations used to create emotional responses in the audience?"

Beyonce is known to be one of the most influential iconic artists who works towards empowering beliefs on feminism and the black movement. Her single Formation for the album Lemonade was released on February 6th 2016- a day before the Superbowl. The music video gained a lot of attention due to it revolving around the historical events of Hurricane Katrina, black culture and feminism.  The music video starts off with Beyonce standing on top of a half submerged police in the flood initiates an emotional response from the viewer. The use of this wide-shot invokes the aftermath of the Hurricane Katrina, this devastation reminds people of the damage that had been caused and introduces some of the components of the music video.
