Mirror and The Times set text
The Daily Mirror is a well known tabloid which tends to follow a left-wing bias on political controversies; it also focuses celebrity gossip, sports and recent news. During the election period they have published content on Donald Trump since he was globally become the center of attention. The front over of this tabloid clearly shows how Trump's republican and political agenda differs to the Daily mirror's left-winged views, which is why they don't even present his face. This could be due to the fact that they are ashamed enough by his victory, so the use of the Statue of Liberty is supposed to express their attitudes along with many others that can sympathise. This could suggest that her face is covered with shame connoting how Trump will lead the country to a downfall. The Statue of Liberty signifies freedom of America, enlightenment , also the land that welcomes others openly. However, Trump's success of becoming president would contradict with its cultural significance on Liberty due to his strong right-winged attitude. Another display of disagreement towards Trump's victory is the use of dark gloomy clouds and a demolished city gives a dystopian setting, which could foreshadow the disaster that may arise as a future event. It can also show how Trump's extreme political views and uncomplimentary attitudes(with having a record of racism/sexism) may lead to many conflicts and possibly war.
The Times is a British quality newspaper well known for their varied political viewpoints; they tend to have a right-winged approach however here they give a neutral stance in Trump's victory to allow their audience to have their own opinions. Also to avoid criticism because the UK's right-wing on the spectrum is not as extreme as Trump's, therefore not many would agree if the Times were to support his win. The representations shown on the newspaper are stereotypical white, male politicians agreeing with the Republican political party which show how Trump and his supporters belong in a certain cultural group. Also the American flag used as a background covering the newspaper's front cover and back portrays vigilance, hardiness and purity. It gives a sense of patriotism which supports Trump's aspirations of "making America great again". This is also shown through his body language of how determined he is to lead the country forward; due to his new position as president, he is now capable of holding a lot of power and making decisions on running the country creating "the new world". Also, the covers are quite minimalistic which could be because it allows a greater focus on Trump giving him the spotlight and respect for his new position as America's President. The headline positions the reader to question whether this will be a positive or negative impact, this is then restated in the subheading "Donald Trump sends shockwaves around the Globe thus implying that it is hard to believe that the Americans voted for someone who's profiled as racist and sexist. The UK readers would find it shocking since we have become accepting as a multi-ethical society.
