Film Techniques: angles and shots

PAN
It is used to track movement along a horizontal surface capturing the location without needing to have a wide angle lens.  Panning creates the feeling of motion and speed without blurring the image to establish a scene. This type of camera movement can make the audience feel more involved with the film.

CRAB SHOT
Allows the audience to follow the movement of the character or object at a constant distance from the action.

EXTREME CLOSE-UP
This is used to focus on an individual character alone to focus on their facial expressions in the moment of the situation of the scene. The audience can get a closer interpretation of the character's feelings which is trying to be conveyed.

TRACK
Where the camera moves alongside with an object or person.

CRANE UP
The camera is on a platform attached to the mechanical arm which allows the camera to move around in any direction as well as up and down to various heights.

DUTCH ANGLE
Also known as titling the camera at a certain degree which can be used for dramatic effect and helps portray unease, disorientation, frantic or desperate actions in a scene.

CUT
Helps transition between scenes and different camera shots to make filming quite realistic by having different point of views making the movie more dynamic.
