Music Video Analysis

All is Full of Love by Bjork
Firstly, the music video does break a lot of general conventions such as the representations carried through. These would include a futuristic theme of advanced technology belonging to the genre of science fiction seem in film, however the ideology of our future is shown in a form of a music video. Also, what makes the music video so unique is a erotic scene of abstract life forms made from two female artificial robots interacting like humans full of lust. The narrative lead is very linear throughout the video with a series of moments within the setting. Referring to Goodwin's theory , the visual amplifies the soundtrack to create an unexpected story, for example: when the machine screws are being turned the instrumental part syncs with the movements of the robot being assembled, the robot used is lip syncing throughout the music video about love towards another female robot, and the use of mise-en-scene with different camera works such as close ups of the machines working on different components of the robot giving her a 'life'. The music video was produced by Bjork herself and directed by Chris Cunningham who was very passionate about sci-fi. Bjork starred herself in a very abstract way as a robot which could be a way of allowing the audience to focus on the visual arts of a futuristic video.

Alors on Danse by Stormae
Alors on Danse falls under the category hip-hop, Eurodance due to its synth riff which accompanies the frustration and drunken state of the star image who plays the role of a man after a hard day at work visiting his child only to be kicked out, and left to wonder into a bar who appears to not be enjoying himself as he is emotionless throughout the video. In the video is set out as a split screen/ dual shot to view two different angles to allow the audience to see two different view points of the setting and the star himself . During certain parts of the video there is an element of lip syncing at certain sections of the verses which is all over the place which can empathies his drunk self.  Stormae gives a clear representation of a depressed man going through troubles in life and turns to drinking and partying; however as the video progresses the shots become distraught and blurred and all over the place. The soundtrack and lyrics illustrate what goes on in the music video; for example when the saxophone introduces the chorus  people at the pub start to dance, also the lyrics "Qui dit amour dit les gosses, dit toujours, et dit divorce" which means "Those who say love also say kids, say forever, and then say divorce. This supplements the scene where the man's child is taken away from him by his divorced wife. Also, the main chorus "Alors On Danse" is repetitively used as it is the name of the song, this is reinforced in the music video when everyone in the pub starts dancing with drinks- the star image is dragged into the scenario with no hesitation.

New Rules by Dua Lipa
Narrative follows the stages of a break up which the main star focus Dua is going through, with the comfort of her friends. This follows a linear narrative where it starts with Dua waking up in a hotel and ends with her leisuring at the pool side with her friends. The music video exhibits many themes of female empowerment such as the joy of female friendship and getting over the hardships of a breakup which can be conquered with these "new rules". In terms of mise-en-scene the music video is setting in a hotel and the pool area, also considering the different times of days. At night they're at the hotel room which represents the time to self-heal and have the comfort of your friends; during the day near the pool side it can represent how she has moved on and accepting that she's single not needing a man in her life but friends. The a common prop used is the pink flamingo which connotes the "narrative of togetherness and empowerment", pink flamingos also represent feminity, balance and beauty. There were various different shots in the music video such as: a continuous shot in the beginning which shows a girls morning routine- it also shows that it takes a while to get over a break up, there are mid-shots of Dua and the dancers to establish their close relationship, close-ups were also taken only on Dua as she is the main star focus. Dua Lipa may have contributed in constructing better representations for women to uplift each other with moments of self care and to unite together to not let a man ruin yourself. Goodwin's theory: there is a clear link and understanding between the visuals and the lyrics such as when she singings "don't pick up the phone", Dua is stopped by her friend from calling her ex.
